Jays 2010 Season Comes to End

The Nanaimo Coalminers couldn’t be held down in the 2010 Provincials.  After the Jays defeated Trail in the quarter final match, a route through the back door to win the tournament was the only option.  Nanaimo’s bats proved to be to much for Kelowna pitching as they eliminted the Jays with a 9-1 victory.  Keifer Rodway took the loss while Jays hitters Sebastien Wong and Jared Johnson each had hits.

The Jays finished the regular schedule with a 34-13 record.

 

Jays Advance to Semi-Final

The Jays Darren Kokl threw a complete game 3 hitter vs the hometown Trail Orioles at the BC Provincial Championships.  Sebastien Wong drove in the first run while Corey Smith delivered a 2rbi double in the top of the seventh to put the game away.  The Jays will now face off against the Nanaimo Coaliminers Monday at 9:00am at Butler Park in Trail.

 

Jays Hit Walk Off

Down 9-4 in the bottom of the 7th with two outs the Jays rallied to tie the game courtesy of a Colin Frantze double that scored Keenan Takatch and Sebastien Wong.  In 8th (extra innings) Keenan Takatch came on in relief of starter Cory Wood and shut down the Angels threat.  In the bottom of the 8th, Darren olk lead of with a groundout bringing up Cory Smith.  Smith blasted 2-1 fastball over the right field to walk off in a thrilling come from behind victory.  Next up for the Jays will be a morning matchup with the Nanaimo Coalminers.

Jays Win Opener

The Kelowna Jays routed the Grand Forks Blues in opening tournament action in Trail.  The 10-1 victory had most of the team contribute to the offense.  Pete Tollenaar picked up the victory.

 

Kelowna Provincial Bound

The Jays will travel to Trail on the weekend to try and capture the Men’s Provincial title.  The Jays haven’t captured the title since 1998.  On the line will be a trip to the 2011 national in Newfoundland.

Jays Win OMBL Title

The Jays have now won back to back OMBL titles to qualify for the BC Provincials in Trail.  Kyle Hart improve to 8-0 on the season with a complete game victory.  In a tight game threw five, Kamloops pulled ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth.  The Jays responded in the top of the 7th with a rbi groundout by Scott Belinski that scored Sebastien Wong to cut the lead in half.  The top of the 8th the Jays would pull ahead with a 2 run blast by Jared Johnson.  Johnson attacked a Denver Wynn (Kamloops) pitch that just stayed fair for the Jays to pull ahead.

The Jays now sit at 31-10 in 2010 and head to Trail for the August long weekend tourney.  The Jays will play Grand Forks, Nanaimo, and Coquitlam in round robin play.

 

Jays Win U21 Provincials

The Jays captured the 2010 Junior Provincial Championship with a 4-1 victory over the Kamloops Sundevils in Kamloops.  Kyle Hart improved to 7-0 on the season with a 2 hit complete game.  Andrew Madsen drove in a run while Darren Kolk, Jake Chapman and Cory Smith each had hits.  The last time the Jays won the U21 Championship was back in 2001 in Richmond.  The Jays will now have a crack at the 2011 Junior National Championships.

Jays Win Over BC Allstars

The Jays won the opening game of the BC U21 Provincials in Kamloops.  Keifer Rodway threw  a complete game only giving up 2 runs.  Down 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th the Jays rallied to win 3-2.  Cory Smith had a walk with the bases loaded to score Corey Wood to win the opener.  The Jays improve to 24-9 and will face Victoria Junior Mavericks Saturday at 1:00pm and wrap up pool play at 7:00pm against the host Kamloops Sundevils.  Sunday will be playoffs to crown the U21 Provincials Champions

 

Jays Win over Kamloops

The Jays took care of the Kamloops Sundevils on Thursday night with a 8-3 victory.  Kyle Hart improved to 6-0 on the summer.  This was last of the PIL games for the Jays and last games with Kamloops in the regular season.  The Jays are currently 23-9 on the season.
